The Pentagon will develop and deploy new weapons in space to combat Russian and Chinese space forces in the future. This is reported by The Washington Times.
“The Pentagon needs a joint military space capability to defend the United States, <…> as well as to protect joint forces, allies and partners from hostile use of space by an adversary,” the publication quotes a statement from the report of the US military department.
The central place in the new strategy is given to the expansion of electronic warfare capabilities and defence in cyberspace, the newspaper said.
Today, the United States Army lags behind Moscow and Beijing in the field of space weapons. The U.S. Armed Forces have only electronic jammer capable of disrupting the transmission of signals between ground stations and satellites, everything else, according to the publication, is under development and hidden from the public.
The publication notes that the Pentagon’s budget for fiscal year 2024 is estimated at $33.3 billion, which is 13 per cent more than last year.
