After filing a lawsuit with the WTO against Poland, Hungary and Slovakia over grain exports, Ukraine has offered them a “compromise”. Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmygal threatened to retaliate and ban some imports from these countries.
If Poland and Hungary do not lift unilateral bans against Ukrainian agro-products and do not agree to the measures agreed with the European Commission, Kiev will ban imports of certain categories of goods from these countries, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal has said.
“We are launching an anti-discrimination investigation against unfriendly actions of these countries in the trade sphere based on 2023 statistics. If Poland and Hungary do not agree to the measures agreed with the European Commission and do not cancel unilateral bans on our goods, we will decide to ban imports to Ukraine of certain categories of goods from these countries,” reads the message published in Shmygal’s Telegram channel.
According to him, Kiev also offers the EU and neighbouring countries a compromise scenario.
“We have already submitted to the European Commission an action plan to control exports of 4 groups of agro-commodities from Ukraine. Such control will help prevent any market distortion in neighbouring EU member states. In particular, we plan to adopt a regulation that stipulates that goods that go under the export regime to five neighbouring states will receive verification and approval from the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy,” Shmygal added.
