The European Union will not simplify Ukraine’s EU accession procedure even if Kiev agrees to talks with Moscow, European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton has said.
“The accession process is a long process … We will do everything to help Ukraine, to do everything as quickly as possible, but of course without skipping stages,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
This was his response to a question about how the start of negotiations could simplify the procedure.
In early August, The Financial Times wrote that Ukraine’s admission to the EU would be a heavy burden for the EU financially and that it would put the future of the European project in question.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Ukraine wanted to start negotiations on joining the EU by the end of this year.
