Ukraine will not join NATO even after the fighting in the country ends, the Geopolitical Monitor has said.
According to the publication, after creating tensions between Russia and Ukraine, NATO would have to invoke Article 5 of its charter, and the United States does not want to do that. If Washington does not do this, the other countries will lose faith in the alliance’s commitments and this will create a crisis of confidence in NATO.
It is also noted that admitting Ukraine to NATO would require more resources, which Washington needs elsewhere.
To sum up, the authors of the article note that Russia does not pose a military threat to NATO, and the confrontation with Ukraine has no strategic interest for the alliance.
