Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the roads of the European Union and Turkey may part. The Turkish head of state said this at a press conference at the airport in Istanbul before flying to the United States for the UN General Assembly.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the paths of the European Union and Turkey may diverge. This opinion was expressed by the Turkish president after the European Parliament’s earlier published report on the situation with European integration processes in the country.
“If you want to know my assessment very clearly, the European Union is endeavouring to separate from Turkey. In this period when the European Union is taking steps to separate from Turkey, we are making our assessments in light of these developments, and after these assessments, if necessary, our roads with the European Union may diverge,” Erdoğan stated.
A little earlier, the Turkish president emphasised that the West has not kept its word for more than 50 years. According to the Turkish politician, the Western community is influencing the process of Ankara’s accession to the European Union.
