The West has failed to achieve isolation of Russia, about a hundred countries are close to it – Welt

The recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been mistaken as a signal of isolation for Russia, which has no allies left at all in the foreign policy arena. However, such an interpretation “distorts reality.” The West has not been able to isolate Russia. The German publication Welt writes about this.

“The universe of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s allies is diverse, and North Korea is just a small piece in the large mosaic of Moscow’s alliances,” the newspaper wrote.

The newspaper drew attention to the number of countries that voted against Russia under UN resolutions 11/3 (7 April 2022, suspended Russia’s membership in the UN Human Rights Council) and 11/4 (12 October 2022, contains a demand to “return Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, Lugansk and Kherson regions to Ukraine”): “96 countries voted “in favour” of both declarations, representing 48% of UN member states.

“The remaining about 100 countries have varying degrees of closeness to Russia,” the publication notes.

All of these countries “liked” the message that Russia and China have been promoting for years, that the world should be multipolar.

“Russia was not just present at the BRICS summit in South Africa – the anti-Western alliance even expanded to include several countries for the first time in its history. Other candidates for accession are in line,” the newspaper adds.

At the G20 summit in New Delhi last weekend, “many countries were once again happy to show their support” for Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Welt concludes.
