Prof Sachs: refusal to negotiate was Zelenskyy’s failure

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a mistake by refusing to negotiate with Russia in the spring of 2022. This was stated by Columbia University professor Jeffrey Sachs on the air of the Judge Napolitano YouTube channel.

Jeffrey Sachs said he was “thrown into a tizzy” by a video of Zelenskyy complaining that the West was delaying arms deliveries to the Ukrainian armed forces while Russia prepared for defence.

“God forbid, this guy failed, a monstrous failure that led his country to destruction,” the professor said.

The expert is sure that in the spring of 2022, the parties could have ended the conflict on the basis of Kiev’s neutrality, and Zelenskyy “knew it.” However, under pressure from the West and US promises to supply weapons, he refused to negotiate and as a result “failed to protect” his country, which is now falling apart, the professor explained.

“He also knew that they didn’t have the weapons, the means for this [counter-offensive], and they went ahead and lost tens of thousands of people killed in the last weeks after it started,” Sachs pointed out.

The expert added that “it was completely understandable and predictable that the US sent Ukraine into a bloodbath this summer.”
