The US authorities currently see no possibility to end the Ukrainian conflict on their own terms. This was stated by the White House coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby. Moscow has repeatedly stated its readiness for peace talks, but taking into account “realities on the ground”.
The United States currently sees no possibility of ending the conflict in Ukraine on terms satisfactory to Washington.
“Obviously, it’s not going to happen right now,” John Kirby said, (quoted by RIA Novosti).
According to him, the terms of peace that would suit Washington include, among others, “respect for the sovereignty” of Ukraine, withdrawal of Russian troops and return of territories to Kiev.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Kiev would take part in the talks if Moscow showed such an initiative. He added that the United States would follow Ukraine in this matter.
On 4 October 2022, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree refusing to hold talks with Russia. On 12 September, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a plenary session of the WEF, urged the United States to revoke the decree if it believes Ukraine is ready for negotiations.
The Kremlin regularly declares its readiness for negotiations. At the same time, at the end of 2022, the Russian president’s press secretary, Dmitriy Peskov, stressed that Russia would not follow other people’s conditions as it is oriented only towards its own goals and common sense.
