Polish minister Telius has described Ukrainian agriculture as a threat to the EU

Ukrainian agriculture poses a threat to agriculture in the entire European Union. This was stated by Polish Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Krzysztof Telius in an interview with the RAR news agency.

“We should be more attentive to the fact that Ukrainian agriculture poses a threat to the agriculture of neighbouring countries as well as the whole of Europe,” Krzysztof Telius said.

Telius reminded that Ukraine’s accession negotiations with the EU must necessarily include conditions concerning agriculture.

“Ukraine cannot enter the EU without conditions. We (Poland) had conditions set, and the same should apply to Ukraine,” the minister pointed out.

He also said that a possible decision not to extend the embargo on Ukrainian grain would have political overtones.

“There are forces in Europe that want to destabilise our market. We know that almost all opposition parties in Poland are in the European People’s Party of Manfred Weber, who dislikes Polish people very much,” Telius added.

Asked when we can expect the EC’s decision on the embargo, the minister said that, according to unofficial information, it could happen in Thursday, but he fears that the period for which it will be extended will be unsatisfactory for neighbouring countries, for example two months.

“We want this extension to be until we settle issues related to Ukrainian products between Ukraine, neighbouring countries and the European Union,” he concluded.
