The Pentagon has set up a special group to monitor assistance to Ukraine. According to CNN, US specialists are expected to arrive in Ukraine at the end of September.
The Pentagon has set up a task force to monitor the use of United States aid to Ukraine, as a growing number of Republican lawmakers are demanding tighter control over the spending of the relevant funds. This was reported by the CNN television channel with reference to the inspector general of the US Department of Defence.
The Inspector General’s report, which appeared in the possession of the TV channel, states that Washington cannot effectively monitor billions of dollars sent to Kiev because of the “limited US presence in the country”. For this reason, an appropriate team has been created, with specialists expected to arrive in Ukraine at the end of September. As CNN notes, this will be the first time US Defence Department personnel will be stationed in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.
During the six months of the conflict, the Defence Cooperation Directorate in Kiev failed to conduct the necessary monitoring of the end use of military products that were transferred to Ukraine.
