WP: The AFU complained about the difficult situation due to Russia’s superiority in the air
The Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers told about the almost insurmountable Russian defence lines and the grave situation due to the Armed Forces’ air superiority, the Washington Post reports.
“According to soldiers and analysts, Russian forces are tormenting Ukrainian forces with attack drones and guided bombs, part of an evolving strategy to exploit Ukraine’s shortcomings, including limited air defence systems and far fewer fighter jets than Moscow has,” the publication said.
The article notes that Russia is actively using two types of weapons – self-detonating attack drones and aerial bombs of increased accuracy.
According to Ukrainian military expert Oleksiy Melnyk, the heavy iron construction of aerial bombs makes them difficult to intercept, as air defence missiles are designed to hit thinner targets. This characteristic and their sheer number pose a problem, he added.
“The air threats further complicated Ukraine’s attempt to storm the territory in the Zaporizhzhya region,” the journalists wrote.
