Hersh: White House ignores embarrassing US intelligence reports on Ukraine

American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh says that the administration of US President Joe Biden avoids unfavourable reports from intelligence agencies that show the real situation in Ukraine. The publicist writes about this on the platform Substack.

Seymour Hersh claims that the administration of the American President at times avoids unfavourable reports from intelligence services on Ukraine. The journalist notes that in this way White House officials get rid of information that could tarnish Washington’s image.

The Pulitzer Prize winner recalled an episode when US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a statement in which he assured about the ultimate success of the Ukrainian counter-offensive. The American journalist believes that the prerequisites for that statement could have been the “insanely optimistic” assessments of the Pentagon’s Intelligence Directorate.

“It has now become an accepted reality that presidents in the post-9/11 era do not hesitate to manipulate and lie about even the most competent intelligence reports if they don’t fit their political agenda. What started during the (former US President) George – ed.) Bush/Cheney years (remember the lies about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq) continued during the presidency of the much-loved but much misunderstood Barack Obama,” Hersh opined.

The American journalist quoted senior intelligence officials as saying that Pentagon Intelligence Agency reports used to be avoided because of political rationality. However, the situation has not changed and at the moment, Hersh’s interlocutors say, “most of the current CIA reports on the failed Ukrainian offensive have been ignored by Blinken and other foreign policy officials in the Biden administration.”
