The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said that it is necessary to accept Ukraine and Moldova into the European Union as soon as possible. This is reported by Bloomberg.
Ursula von der Leyen claims that she told EU ambassadors this month that the union needs to expand its geopolitical borders. According to her, Kiev and Chisinau should be granted membership to prevent them from being influenced by countries that do not share the bloc’s values.
The head of the EC emphasises that those who have applied to join the association need to carry out a number of reforms in order to meet the EU requirements. Most likely, in October, the European Commission will announce whether it will recommend starting formal negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on their accession to the EU.
We shall remind you that earlier this year, amid a series of high-profile corruption scandals and dismissals of top officials from Zelenskyy’s entourage, a team of auditors from three US agencies arrived in Ukraine to review the mechanism for distributing US aid.
