Berbok: security guarantees for Kiev should be an aid to EU membership

German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock has said that security guarantees for Ukraine should include help for the country’s accession to the EU and NATO.

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper, she said the West should provide Kiev with military and economic support. According to the minister, Berlin and its partners are working for peace in Ukraine in the long term.

“This would include a path to the European Union and NATO, supplies of weapons for self-defence, as well as medium-term economic support up to reconstruction,” Berbock said.

Earlier, she called on Western countries to create an air defence umbrella over Ukraine by winter.
