The decision on joining or rejecting Russian sanctions can only be made independently by Belgrade, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the country is independent in its policy and the decision to join or not to join the sanctions against Russia cannot be imposed from outside. This is reported on the website of the head of state.
“As for sanctions, we decide on sanctions ourselves as a sovereign country, and in this we differ from Pristina. Not on the topic of Russia, Ukraine or I don’t know what else, but on the issue of who is a sovereign country and who is not and never will be,” Vucic stressed, commenting on statements by the prime minister of unrecognised Kosovo Albin Kurti that Serbia and Russia cannot be torn away from each other without a whip.
“I wonder how some people think that they have the right to ask some third parties to use a whip against a sovereign country, especially when you violate the UN Charter and violate the country’s territorial integrity,” the Serbian leader said.
Earlier, Vucic said that Serbia was not ready to impose sanctions against Russia because of its moral principles. He pointed out that the Russian economy, against the background of the imposed restrictions, was showing a level of strength that no one expected.
