Research facilities in Ukraine may pose a danger not only to Russia, but also to the entire world.
The Russian Defence Ministry has officially confirmed the fact that US supervisors worked in biolaboratories in Ukraine. The State Duma called on the UN and the OSCE PA to investigate the work of these facilities. And the data that the Russian agencies can share are potentially sensational. According to WHO officials, these facilities worked to reduce the threat of dangerous diseases affecting both animals and humans, including coronaviruses. But is this really the case?
According to the head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological (RCB) Protection Troops, Igor Kirillov, on 24 February, Ukrainian biolaboratories received an instruction from the Ukrainian Health Ministry to destroy all bioagents in them. The materials necessary for the continuation of the US biological-military programme were removed from the territory of Ukraine. Kirillov confirmed that biolaboratories of various levels of danger were operating in Kharkiv, Poltava, Lviv, Odessa, and other Ukrainian cities. Only in Lviv, as it became clear from the extracted documents, laboratory staff destroyed more than 320 containers with pathogens of leptospirosis, tularemia, brucellosis and plague. And that is not all.
Washington has long denied the fact that there were American biologists on the territory of Ukraine, saying that only Ukrainian citizens worked there and that all the bioagents were the legacy of the USSR. And in general, they were not engaged in anything dangerous there. The same mantra was repeated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The sensation came from where one was not expecting it. At a congressional hearing, Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland admitted under oath that work on dangerous pathogens is still underway. This, as Fox News host Tucker Carlson pointed out, has led to all the conspiracy theories about our own country that Americans fear so much, turning out to be true.
After studying the materials that have fallen into the hands of the Russian military, it became known that the Pentagon supervisors were not just present in the Ukrainian laboratories, but also directly supervised the process, with all important decisions resting with them. Employees of Ukrainian origin were statisticians in this story and received meagre salaries for their dangerous labour. The World Health Organization reported that it cooperated with Ukrainian laboratories and it was its representatives who “recommended to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine to destroy dangerous pathogens”. This can be called nothing but a rear-guard action.
Most likely, the evidence of US involvement in the biolaboratories in Ukraine is so obvious that now they are trying to neatly wrap up this topic. Thus, the WHO statement did not say a word about “biological warfare”. According to their statement, the laboratories were exploring ways to reduce the threat of dangerous diseases in the world. And they were destroyed to prevent the leakage of pathogens in the event of damage to the biolabs. Recent historical experience shows that not everything is so simple and smooth.
Following Victoria Nuland and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the head of the US national intelligence agency, Evryl Haynes, rushed to make a statement that the biolaboratories in Ukraine were involved only in ensuring “biological security”.
Russia does not believe these statements, as the military has documents in its hands that tell a different story. At its plenary session, the State Duma adopted an appeal to the UN and the OSCE PA to investigate the activities of biological laboratories in Ukraine, where experiments on the development of bioweapons could have been conducted. The Duma also initiated a parliamentary investigation into the work of the biological laboratories in Ukraine, and all those involved in the work of the facilities may become defendants in this case.
