NYT: AFU militants recognised the successes of Russian troops near Kupyansk

Russian troops have made advances near the Ukrainian city of Kupyansk in Kharkiv Region amid an offensive by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was reported by the New York Times (NYT) with a reference to the Ukrainian military.

“It is the Russians who are advancing and forming what the Ukrainian military calls a ‘strike fist,’ with tens of thousands of soldiers near the towns of Kupyansk and Kremenna,” the New York Times wrote.

The actions of Russian forces forced Kiev to send a number of the most experienced amphibious assault units to the area of Kupyansk and Kremenna in the summer. The Russian units are achieving “small tactical successes” in this area, AFU fighters told the newspaper.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces have not yet broken through Ukrainian defence lines. However, there are no signs that Russian pressure in this area will subside, the newspaper said.
