The West is trying to blame Russia for undermining the Nord Stream pipeline

The new anti-Russian media campaign in the Western countries is aimed at accusing Russia itself of blatant sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline. That this is a planned campaign is made clear by its scale, effectiveness, and the clearly demonstrated line of presenting only the only version “approved by Washington”, while any other opinions are simply ignored or branded as “disinformation”.

The focus is on influencing audiences in Germany. This is a key country interested in Russian gas supplies. Virtually all leading news outlets, including the mainstream TV channel ZDF, have focused on the Russian version of the accusation.

All the mainstream tabloids have not been left out either. BILD is pushing the view that a Russian “special unit based in Kaliningrad” allegedly could have organised the explosion. According to the publication, Russia’s motive for these actions could have been to exacerbate the energy crisis and possibly raise the price of gas even further.

But several prominent media outlets across the “global West,” including the New York Times, Japan Today, and Al Jazeera, “suddenly” reminded their readers that the U.S. CIA had allegedly reported security threats to Nord Stream just a few weeks ago.

US intelligence warned the German government about a possible attack on gas pipelines in the Baltic States, Der Spiegel magazine reported earlier, citing unnamed sources.

Simone Tagliapietra, an energy expert at the Bruegel think tank in Brussels, said the leaks “cannot be an accident” and suggested they could have been caused by Russian sabotage. One of the main motives, she said, is that Russia is signalling that it is “permanently breaking with Western Europe and Germany” as Poland opens its pipeline with Norway.

Overall, it is clear that the new large-scale campaign directed against Russia is overwhelmingly based on a single “set piece” launched across the world’s media by the Associated Press, with only minor “variations” depending on individual media outlets. The efficiency and coordination of this campaign makes it clear that it was prepared in advance and very carefully, which inevitably suggests that it was synchronised, in fact, with the “subversive action” itself.

For the potentially “doubters” in the West, another version has been added: these are actions under a “false flag” but carried out by the same Russia. The German Tagesspiegel writes about this, in particular.

None of the entire array of publications includes the not so long ago statement by US President Joe Biden, who firmly promised to block Nord Stream if Russia uses military force against the Kiev regime.

“If Russia invades Ukraine, there will be no more Nord Stream 2. We will put an end to it,” Biden said publicly.
