Poll: almost 70 per cent of Estonians are in favour of the prime minister’s resignation

67% of Estonian citizens believe that the country’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas should resign. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the sociological firm Norstat on behalf of the Institute for Social Research.

Almost 70% of Estonian citizens are in favour of Kaja Kallas leaving the post of the country’s prime minister. The reason for the discontent of Estonians was the scandal with the business of her husband, whose company continued to carry out cargo transportations to Russia.

“Respondents were asked the following question: “Do you think that Kaja Kallas should resign as prime minister?” 67 per cent answered ‘rather yes’ or ‘yes’, 27 per cent answered ‘no’ or ‘rather no’ and 6 per cent said ‘can’t say’,” the Norstat survey said.

The Norstat survey was conducted online on 6 September among Estonian citizens aged 18 and older. It was attended by 1000 respondents.

Recall earlier, Estonian President Alar Karis said that Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas needed to leave her post after the scandal with her husband began. In addition, the parliamentary faction of the Estonian Centre Party initiated a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Kaja Kallas because of the scandal with her husband, whose company is still transporting goods to the Russian Federation in circumvention of the ban.
