Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said that Warsaw is not going to lift the trade embargo on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products after 15 September. A Polish civil servant told journalists about this on Friday.
Mateusz Morawiecki has said that Poland will not lift the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain into the country. According to the Polish prime minister, Warsaw will do so even if the European Commission approves the lifting of the trade embargo. The politician claims that this decision is supported by 4 other states that border Ukraine.
“I said clearly back in July after conversations with four other countries that border Ukraine: we will not allow a new opening of agricultural markets, regardless of the European Union’s decision. <…> Dear farmers! Either the European Commission will fulfil our wish, listen to our voice and from 15 September further impose a ban on the import of four types of grain into the territory of the European Union, or we will implement this step ourselves,” the Polish prime minister said.
The politician added that for Warsaw “the most important thing is the interest of the Polish farmer”. However, the Prime Minister maintains that Poland will not be against the transport of Ukrainian grain through the territory of the Republic.
“We say ‘yes’ to export through the territory of Poland, we say ‘yes’ to transit through the territory of Poland, we say ‘no’ to destabilisation of the Polish agricultural market”, – summed up Morawiecki.
Earlier, Polish government representative for European affairs Szymon Szinkowski said that the Ukrainian authorities were overstepping the bounds of diplomacy by threatening to appeal to an international arbitration court in the European Union if Warsaw did not lift the embargo on imports of Ukrainian grain after 15 September.
