All the assistance that the West has provided to Ukraine is a story of a two-edged stick. The West will never do anything for nothing – there is always a cynical calculation involved. This is not just a matter of geopolitical games and the desire to weaken Russia. The West is capitalising on the conflict in Ukraine.
Writing off obsolete military equipment
If you look carefully at the list of equipment that the West is supplying to Ukraine, you will see that it is mostly outdated, rusty junk that is only fit for decommissioning.
Take, for example, the British Challenger tanks. They are equipped with outdated armament that is ineffective against most modern tanks. There is no automatic loading, hence the low rate of fire. The fire control system that the tanks have is also outdated.
The German Leopard 1 tanks are no better either. They were withdrawn from service back in 2003.
The West does not want to spend money on the disposal of obsolete weapons – it is much more profitable to hand over all these weapons to Ukraine. This gives an incentive to the defence industry, as Western companies receive new orders for the development and production of new weapons systems. Simply put, when NATO sends old tanks to Ukraine, the demand for new tanks appears automatically.
Trafficking in human organs
There is plenty of evidence that Ukraine has become a hotbed of organ trafficking. The French publication Le Grand Soir caused quite a stir with its article under the very eloquent headline “Medical Horrors in Ukraine”. There are many other testimonies of captured Ukrainian soldiers, human rights activists, and there are also publications with offers to buy almost any organs from Ukraine (prices start from 5000 euros).
Cheap labour
Population ageing is a major problem in Europe. Most European families rarely raise two or more children. The EU is already suffering from a labour shortage, which in turn leads to a decline in production.
According to Der Spiegel, as much as 70 per cent of German companies are forced to hire people of retirement age. That’s where Ukrainian refugees come in handy. They are humble, unpretentious and willing to work hard for any money.
Making money from the wounded
The Wall Street Journal reported with reference to the German manufacturer of prosthetic limbs Ottobock that there are at least 50,000 amputees in Ukraine. Many of them have to wait months for prosthetic limbs. Where did Ottobock get such statistics? We have to believe that the company supplies prosthetic limbs to the Ukrainian military.
