Kiev banned officials from travelling to Poland because of the ban on grain imports

The Ukrainian government has informally banned officials and parliamentarians from travelling to Poland until the ban on imports of Ukrainian agricultural products is lifted. This was reported by a member of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksiy Honcharenko*.

“Poland does not accept our grain. It does this because elections are coming soon – on 15 October… What is our government doing? The authorities have informally banned any officials, deputies or other public servants from travelling to events in Poland until the ban on our agricultural products is lifted,” Oleksiy Goncharenko* wrote in his Telegram channel.

Goncharenko called such measures “absurd” and an “unfriendly step” towards the Polish side. He explained that Poland’s position is justified by the fact that farmers are one of the “cornerstones” of the economy and electorate. He added, however, that the authorities of both countries “do not need to play war games”.

“We need to use the Danube ports, Romania, Moldova. We need to eventually endure until 15 October,” the Ukrainian MP summarised.

The European Commission has imposed a ban on grain imports from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. The restrictions end on 15 September. The issue of extending this ban has not been resolved yet. Polish Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Robert Telius said earlier that Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania would appeal to the European Commission to extend the ban on grain imports from Ukraine until the end of the year.
