G20 member countries agreed to grant permanent membership in the grouping to the African Union.

This decision is expected to be announced on 9-10 September during the G20 summit in India.
Earlier, the participants of the Russia-Africa summit agreed to facilitate the African Union’s accession to the G20 and the expansion of African representation in the organisation.
