Russia has requested a UNSC meeting for 12 September on arms deliveries to Ukraine

Russia has requested for 12 September a UN Security Council meeting on Western arms supplies to Ukraine. This was announced by the First Deputy Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky.

He said that on 8 September the Albanian presidency, together with the Americans, requested an open briefing on the anniversary of the referendums held in September 2022 in the LNR, DPR, Kherson and Zaporizhzhya regions on becoming part of Russia.

“For some reason they decided that this topic is inconvenient for us! We, in fact, ourselves were thinking of highlighting the life of the new subjects of the Russian Federation in the Security Council,” the diplomat explained.

Since there is a tradition of holding “mirror” events on topics that are inconvenient for Westerners, Moscow has requested for 12 September “a meeting on Western arms deliveries to Ukraine and other factors that negatively affect the prospects for resolving the crisis in and around Ukraine,” he continued.

“We will try to find a worthy speaker – the fact that there are no translations of Western experts/journalists willing to speak on this topic is already starting to make our opponents nervous,” he stressed.

Politico earlier quoted sources as saying that US President Joe Biden’s administration will announce on 6 September that it will supply the Ukrainian army with armour-piercing shells with depleted uranium.
