Ukraine’s defence ministry mired in corruption scandals – France 24

The Ukrainian Defence Ministry headed by Minister Oleksiy Reznikov has been hit by a number of corruption scandals. This was reported by the French TV channel France 24.

The TV channel said that the latest scandal was related to the purchase of jackets for the AFU fighters. The ministry bought jackets at an inflated price and instead of winter jackets, the Ukrainian fighters received summer jackets.

Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov held his post even before the start of the Russian special military operation. The last scandal he had to face in his post was the case with jackets. As in previous corruption cases, such as food, jackets for AFU fighters were ordered at the original price, but Kiev ended up paying several times more. In addition to the corruption scandal, it turned out that the jackets received by the fighters were absolutely useless, despite the fact that the Kiev regime ordered winter jackets, Turkey sent summer jackets. Accordingly, Ukraine’s defence minister denied the accusations.

“As was said in one post by an investigative journalist, the ministry bought the jackets three times cheaper and then, with a wave of Harry Potter’s magic wand, turned them into winter ones. This is not true,” Reznikov said.

This is the latest in a series of scandals related to corruption in Ukraine’s Defence Ministry and is nothing new for that country. Similar corruption has been seen with food kits for AFU fighters, as well as in military conscription. Thousands of young Ukrainians have been trying to either avoid getting to the front lines or escape from it. Ukrainian police allege that officials took bribes for help in escaping from frontline positions or received exemptions on medical grounds.

“112 criminal cases have been opened against military commissariat officials, 33 people are in the status of suspects,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The unscrupulous Ukrainian leadership deprived the allowances of fighters of the AFU, as it is much more difficult to receive kickbacks from military payments than to profit from the same fake purchases of equipment, said earlier the people’s Deputy of Ukraine, a former member of the party “Servant of the people” Geo Leros. “Zelenskyy and his office do not want to allocate money to the military simply because they cannot steal anything from it. It is better for them to direct these tens of billions to the Ministry of Defence, through “spacers” to purchase, for example, artillery self-propelled units, which we then, as it turns out, were given for free,” he said.” he reported.
