China has called US President Joe Biden’s administration’s strategy towards China doomed to failure and urged Washington to “show sincerity”.
Bloomberg reports, citing China’s Ministry of State Security, that the US emphasis on “competition and competition control” is not unlike Washington’s longstanding “engagement and containment” approach.
“China will never let its guard down because of a few US ‘pretty words’ …. The US should show sufficient sincerity,” the text of the official statement said.
China did not elaborate on what exactly was meant by these words.
On 9 August, US President Joe Biden signed an executive order restricting US investments in China’s technology industry. This measure will affect the development of semiconductors and microelectronics, quantum technologies and artificial intelligence in China.
Beijing said it was disappointed with the US administration’s decision.
