Americans think US President Biden is ‘too old’ for re-election – poll

A poll conducted by The Wall Street Journal newspaper shows that a majority of American voters believe US President Joe Biden is “too old” to be re-elected for a second term.

The survey found that 73 per cent of respondents believe Biden is “too old” to go for a second term. Meanwhile, 36 per cent of respondents say the president is “mentally fit” for re-election. Former US President Donald Trump is only three years younger than the incumbent US president and is also seeking re-election, who is also considered too old for a second term by 47 per cent of those polled.

This poll shows that only 42 per cent of respondents have a favourable view of United States President Joe Biden’s policy decisions in office. At the same time 59% are dissatisfied with the state of the economy, 63% of respondents are concerned about inflation, the same number of respondents are interested in security at the border of the country.

The publication notes that more than half of those surveyed are dissatisfied with Biden’s foreign policy: 57% criticised the actions of his administration in relations with the People’s Republic of China, and 52% disapprove of the policy of handling the Ukrainian crisis.

Sociologist Michael Bociana states that “voters want change, and none of the leading presidential contenders are offering it to them”. This poll was conducted on 24-30 August among 1.5 thousand participants.
