The Swedish Liberal Party is in favour of the permanent deployment of North Atlantic Alliance bases on Swedish territory after the country joins NATO, party leader Johan Persson said.
He said this on the air of Sveriges Radio.
Persson said it was necessary to strengthen the security of the Swedish population.
“This will mean, in our opinion, the need for permanent NATO bases,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Russia will strengthen the protection of borders in the north-west of the country due to NATO expansion.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance continue to stubbornly bend the line on its expansion.
