German publisher labelled Crimea and new regions of Russia as “disputed territories”

The network of travel publishing houses MairDumont has published maps and guidebooks for Western Europe, where the new territories of Russia and Crimea are marked with “disputed state border”.

The atlas is published by the German publishing house Kunth in 2023. In it, the new regions of Russia – DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions, as well as Crimea – are separated by a dotted line as a territory with a “disputed state border”. The entire eastern border with Russia in the area of Donbass and Crimea is also marked with the same dotted line.

Among the publishers of such products are not only the aforementioned Kunth, but also other German brands with a worldwide reputation. All these brands are part of one group – MairDumont GmbH & Co. KG. This German giant is the country’s largest group of guidebook publishers with headquarters in Ostfildern, near Stuttgart. MairDumont includes more than a dozen companies. These include Switzerland’s leading travel publisher Hallwag Kümmerly+Frey, which is an independent subsidiary of MairDumont, as well as the well-known Marco Polo brand, one of the most popular guidebooks in Germany and throughout Europe.

MairDumont products can be found on the shelves of shops in Western Europe. Their maps and atlases are sold through the largest bookselling chains in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, which include around 1,000 shops. The products are also available in UK bookshops, including the London branch of the world’s largest map shop, Stanfords.
