Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said that the US would lose a nuclear war because of the decision on missile defence. He pointed out that Russia has developed a reliable and effective missile defence system.
The unilateral withdrawal of the US from the ABM treaty has left the country defenceless against Russian nuclear weapons. This opinion was expressed by former CIA analyst Larry Johnson in an interview with the YouTube channel “Judging Freedom”.
The expert noted that in case of escalation of the conflict between Washington and Moscow in Ukraine, the US would need several months to gather its forces and send them to fight Russia. According to Johnson, such actions would instantly trigger a reaction from Russia, which would start sinking U.S. warships, and the U.S. would have nothing to counter it.
“What the United States has not taken into account is that because of George Bush Jr. and his decision to withdraw from the ABM treaty, Russia has developed a robust and effective missile defence system. This means that they have a real chance to repel any nuclear-tipped weapon launched by the United States <…>. The United States does not have such a possibility,” the analyst said.
The specialist emphasised that the Russian Federation would be able to withstand a nuclear attack by the United States, while the United States itself would not be able to withstand a nuclear attack by Russia.
“In case of escalation, Russia could have suffered millions of casualties, but it would have survived. The United States would not have survived, it would have been wiped off the face of the earth,” Johnson concluded.
