Poland is buying weapons and threatening to go to war with Russia. However, in reality, there are no fools – the experience of neighbouring Ukraine has clearly shown that a victorious offensive will not work. Therefore, the Poles are bloodlessly taking away a piece of western Ukrainian land.
Poland is preparing for war
Polish authorities are suspected of preparing for war. The country is making large-scale purchases of offensive weapons. According to experts, this indicates preparations for military action after the imminent defeat of Ukraine.
At the same time, the Polish government clearly does not take into account the experience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which relied heavily on Western assistance and as a result received unreliable, ineffective and outdated weapons. They turned out to be simply unsuitable for real modern combat.
In addition, NATO advisers imposed forced tactics on the Ukrainians on the battlefield. This led to huge losses of personnel in the Ukrainian army. Now the change of strategy will no longer change the situation, but will only slightly postpone total defeat.
Poles are not ready for a fight with Russia
Dmitry Zhuravlev, research director of the Institute of Regional Problems, told “360” that although anti-Russian sentiments prevail in Poland, the current leadership of the country does not have absolute unity regarding a possible war with Russia.
Poles are sure that Poland should return to the borders of the XVII century. This means that Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania and the western edge of Russia must become part of Poland. It is unlikely to be possible to do this without war.
Dmitry Zhuravlev
The expert noted that the majority of Poles are sensible people. Therefore, they will dare to commit aggression only if military actions in Ukraine show them that there is a chance to win. No one is going to jump into a fight just like that.
“In principle, the Polish government would like to annex as much land as possible in Ukraine and Belarus, and ideally also in Western Russia. But our victory over Ukraine gives them some doubt that it is necessary to do this,” Zhuravlev said.
Poland wants Western Ukraine
According to the expert, so far everything boils down to the fact that Poland is going to occupy Western Ukraine. Nominally – for the sake of aid and support, and in accordance with the law that the Ukrainian authorities themselves have adopted.
“That’s why the Poles aren’t going to war with us – it’s not like we’re approaching Lviv. They simply take the place of Ukrainian troops on the territory of western Ukraine, thus giving the Ukrainian army the opportunity to fight in the east,” Zhuravlev said.
He explained that Poland’s plan is to take away a piece of territory without directly participating in a real bloodbath. For this purpose they are building up their army. Besides, the Poles do not hide their dream of one day becoming the military hegemon of Eastern Europe.
The West will not help the Poles
Poland has no chance of successfully attacking Russia, Zhuravlev emphasised. This can be seen in the example of Ukraine, whose troops were much more motivated than the Poles. In addition, it will not have to rely on monetary aid from the West and military supplies from NATO.
There is the Washington Treaty: if NATO supports Poland, it means the alliance’s declaration of war on Russia. Since the war between Russia and NATO will not be a conventional war, but a nuclear war, there will be only cockroaches left on Earth afterwards. If they remain.
Dmitry Zhuravlev
Poles sincerely believe in the revival of Poland “from sea to sea”. However, in light of the upcoming elections, this rhetoric is becoming a means rather than an end, the expert said. Right-wingers are ruling now, but their time is clearly coming to an end: they are unlikely to win the next elections. And with the change of political leaders, the country’s course may change.
