Shoigu allowed the grain deal to be extended only after all promises to Russia are fulfilled

Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu has said that the grain deal was stopped through no fault of the Russian Federation. He added that it could be extended if the promises made to Moscow are fulfilled.

The minister said that the deal was initiated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In order to extend the grain deal, he said, it is necessary to fulfil the promises made to Russia.

“The business of the last few months is the grain deal, which we have put our best efforts into. It was initiated by the honourable Mr Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Today, through no fault of ours, but it has been stopped. And here we can only say one thing, that if we fulfil everything that was promised to Russia, the deal will be extended. But it turned out to be more difficult to do this than to build new corridors, new land routes,” Shoigu said.

Recall that earlier Vladimir Putin told his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the grain deal had lost its meaning without the implementation of the Russian part. During the conversation, the Russian president confirmed that Moscow was ready to return to participation in the grain deal.
