Slovak parliament speaker Boris Kollar has called for the ban on grain imports from Ukraine to be extended.
“You know that the ban on imports of Ukrainian grain to five countries expires on 15 September, it was a European decision and it was in effect for Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria…. We want to ban imports,” RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Kollar said that otherwise the consequences for Slovak agrarians would be catastrophic.
Earlier, Polish Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Robert Telus said that Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania had agreed an appeal to the European Commission to extend the ban on grain imports from Ukraine until the end of the year.
