Bloomberg: Japan set to increase military budget to record level

The Japanese government plans to raise military spending to the highest levels in the world.

About it writes Bloomberg.

According to the publication, representatives of the Ministry of Defence of the country said that for the fiscal year beginning in April 2024, they need $52.6 billion, that is 13% more compared to the same period last year.

As a result, the requested amount will be almost equal to what France and Germany spend on their armed forces, the publication notes.

It is specified that Tokyo was prompted to take such a step by the Ukrainian conflict, the activity of the DPRK, as well as the strengthening of the Middle Kingdom in the region.

Therefore, the funds that the Japanese Defence Ministry expects to receive will be spent, among other things, on accumulating stocks of missiles capable of striking military facilities in Russia, China and North Korea, according to Bloomberg.

Earlier, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said that Japan’s participation in the Pentagon’s plans to deploy medium- and shorter-range missiles in Asia poses additional security threats to Russia’s Far East.

Patrushev also said that Japan is increasing its military budget, focusing on NATO indicators.
