The U.S. administration has not yet given an opportunity to assess the state of the Russian diplomatic property seized six years ago. This is reported by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the United States Anatoly Antonov.
Anatoly Antonov calls on the authorities in Washington to “stop the bacchanalia” and return “all objects of infrastructure stolen from us”. According to him, the US has still not given an opportunity to assess the state of diplomatic property.
“Over the past 6 years, the embassy has sent hundreds of note requests to the state department regarding access to Russian real estate at least to determine its technical condition. All of them have received refusals. We demand from Washington to stop the bacchanalia, comply with international obligations and return every single object of our stolen diplomatic property in the U.S.,” the politician said.
The Russian ambassador claims that a new wave of “unprecedented measures to restrict the activities of Russian diplomatic and consular missions in the United States and, in fact, further curtail bilateral ties” was undertaken by the American authorities six years ago. It was then that they demanded that diplomats close the Consulate General in San Francisco and end the activities of the trade mission in the United States.
“The American authorities blocked access to sovereign Russian properties in a raider-like manner, removing dipimmunity from them. The same was done earlier with regard to our real estate in Maryland and New York states, and later in Washington state,” Antonov noted.
The politician emphasises that the US authorities have violated the fundamental norms of international law. According to him, they even violated their own legislation by encroaching on the principle of inviolability of private property.
“The United States has grossly violated the fundamental norms of international law, including the Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, as well as the 1964 bilateral Consular Convention. In addition, they have flouted their own laws by infringing on the principle of inviolability of private property guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. We are cynically told that according to the documents, Russia was not deprived of ownership of the objects. It was simply “forbidden to use them”. This is a pseudo-legitimate attempt to juggle with basic legal concepts,” the diplomat said.
Antonov emphasises that such actions were taken by America allegedly because of Russian interference in the US elections. However, he claims that they were not reversed when such claims were debunked.
