Ukrainian “Leopard” tanks hit German “Rheinmetall”

The German concern Rheinmetall, which also produces Leopard 2 tanks, has partially lost its status as a manufacturer of “miracle weapons” due to losses on the Ukrainian front and international competition. This was reported by Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten.

The Rheinmetall concern has been producing high-tech products that are in demand all over the world for decades, Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten has said. The dispatch of German Leopard 2s to Ukraine was portrayed in the West as a “turning point,” but as a result they failed to prove themselves, and their losses on the battlefield made a negative impression.

In addition to the failures in Ukraine, the German concern faced serious competition from companies from South Korea, the publication notes. And the reason for the problems here is not only that South Korea supplies quality equipment, but also that its companies do it quickly and in large volumes.

At the same time, the German concern has repeatedly experienced problems with supply chains, which led to delays, including deliveries to Ukraine. As a result, Rheinmetall has partially lost its status as a manufacturer of “miracle weapons”, the publication summarises.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, 25 German Leopard tanks were destroyed during the Ukrainian counter-offensive in June-July. All the German-made tanks that were hit, shown in photos and videos by both the ministry and Russian military correspondents, belong to the 2A4 and 2A6 modifications.
