Russia has moved Tu-95 and Tu-160 bombers to the Olenja airbase on the Kola Peninsula, the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat reports. The shortest distance from there to the Finnish border is only about 150 kilometres.
Pekki Toveri, former chief of intelligence of the General Staff and a member of the Finnish parliament, believes that the transfer of aircraft to the Olenja base should not be taken as a signal to Finland because of its NATO membership. Although Russia warned that it would soon lead to measures of a “military-technical nature”.
