The prototype of the Russian SJ-100 short-haul aircraft, manufactured by the Production Centre of PJSC Yakovlev (part of UAC of Rostec State Corporation) in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, has made its maiden flight. The tests confirmed stable operation of all domestic systems, controllability and stability of the aircraft in the air. This was reported in the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, a total of about 40 systems and units were replaced on the import-substituted SJ-100. The flight duration was 54 minutes, it took place at altitudes of up to 3,000 metres and speeds of up to 343 kilometres per hour. In accordance with the flight task, the crew performed a check of the aircraft’s stability and controllability characteristics in the air, a check of the automatic cabin pressure regulation system, and also performed a “cloud landing” and a landing approach with departure for the second round, the ministry said.
“The first flight of the Superjet, created under the programme of import substitution of systems and components, is the success of many thousands of teams of enterprises of the aircraft-building and radio-electronic industries, which are part of the control circuit of the state corporation Rostec.” Russian developers and manufacturers managed to implement and supply the aircraft with their own design solutions and technologies, including avionics, landing gear, auxiliary power plant, integrated control system, as well as power supply systems, air conditioning, fire protection and many others,” commented Denis Manturov, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade specified that in order to accelerate the testing programme, the first prototype aircraft uses French-Russian SaM146 engines. The second prototype will soon start the flight test programme already with domestic PD-8 engines, which are currently undergoing a series of bench tests and flight tests as part of the IL-76LL flying laboratory.
“Today’s flight of the Superjet with Russian systems is the result of a great joint work of the design team and the factory staff, who developed, assembled and lifted a virtually new aircraft in a short period of time, including for the world aviation industry. This is the best demonstration of our country’s technological independence. We have proved, first of all to ourselves, that we can develop and produce modern civil aircraft on our own, without imported technologies,” said Yury Slyusar, General Director of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).
