Funding for Ukraine’s military support has caused strong disagreements among EU member states, the Financial Times writes. Amid rising costs, the allocation of money for Kiev is under threat, the publication notes.
The newspaper writes that the reason for the split in the EU was Brussels’ requests for additional funding totalling €86bn, intended to reduce the burden on the EU budget, while approving four years of support for Ukraine.
The debate on the issue could be a “key test of Western resolve” over support for Ukraine, while “military sceptics” in Europe and the US have noted only “limited successes” achieved by Kiev during the AFU counter-offensive, the article said.
In early August, the Financial Times wrote that Ukraine’s admission to the EU would be a heavy burden on the EU financially, putting the future of the European project in question.
