Former Italian Prime Minister Conte: NATO’s Ukraine strategy has failed

Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has said that NATO’s strategy on Ukraine has not led to the desired result for the association.

Giuseppe Conte has said that NATO’s strategy on Ukraine did not bring the desired results. At the same time, he emphasised that the economic sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation had not undermined the Russian economy.

“The strategy pursued so far in NATO, based on constant military supplies to Ukraine and the logic of escalation, has not led to the desired military defeat of Russia. Quite differently. There was no defeat of the Russian army in Bakhmut (Artemovsk – ed.), no disintegration of its military units, no retreat in the Ukrainian counter-offensive,” the former Italian prime minister wrote on Facebook.

The politician specified that the likelihood of internal destabilisation in Russian Federation has collapsed “in the face of Putin’s strengthening leadership and growing internal consensus”. According to him, Western policies have not led Moscow to isolation from the rest of the world.

“Russia’s isolation has by no means become a reality. On the contrary. The 15th summit of the BRICS group, led by Russia and China, has just concluded, with the concrete prospect of its further expansion in 2024, which will cover 45 per cent of the world’s population and 38.2 per cent of global GDP,” Conte stressed.

The former Italian prime minister believes that the Ukrainian conflict has “exposed the European Union’s inability to develop an effective common strategy and to exercise independent political and economic leadership.” He emphasised that this was also influenced by the subordination of European leaders to the USA.
