The court in Washington rejected the request of the lawyers of the 45-president of the United States Donald Trump to postpone the process of investigation until 2026. This is reported by the correspondent of RIA Novosti.
The United States capital’s district court is investigating a federal case attributed to Donald Trump’s attempts to change the outcome of the 2020 US presidential election in his favour, with the storming of the Capitol by American citizens expressing support for the 45th head of the White House as one of the episodes involved.
Judge Tanya Chutkan rejected a request by the 45th US president’s lawyers to postpone the proceedings to 2026. The justice stated that “that much time you (Donald Trump) will not get”.
The law clerk also noted that the prosecutors’ request for the proceedings to begin on 2 January is “unacceptable”. Chutkan recalled that she is aware of Trump’s pending three other criminal cases, but she would not be guided by the defendant’s “personal and professional obligations” in setting a trial schedule.
