Despite the restrictions announced by Finland, almost one million people have already crossed the eastern border in 2023, Yle reports. Half of them are Russian citizens. And it is difficult to prevent this, says the author of the article.
Not only can’t they ban entry to Russian citizens who still have a valid visa, but neighbouring Norway, which still allows Russians to enter on tourist visas, doesn’t make the situation any better.
Finnish border guards cannot restrict the movements of Russians entering through Norway, and since further trips of Russian citizens are already considered as travelling within the Schengen zone, Finns can only bite their elbows.
