“Bypassing NATO”: the US was scared of a new military operation in Ukraine

A former adviser to the Pentagon chief, Colonel Douglas McGregor, has said that Lithuania and Poland want to invade western Ukraine bypassing the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation. The former military officer said this in an interview with Dialogue works.

Douglas McGregor believes that scary inferences are emerging in Warsaw and Vilnius, according to which Poland and Lithuania are planning to invade the territory of Ukraine, as if to rule out NATO membership. The ex-colonel said that such plans of Polish and Lithuanian representatives are absurd, as under any circumstances they are members of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“The worst thing is that now there are confirmations that the Poles and Lithuanians are interested in an intervention, which they claim they would have carried out independently bypassing NATO,” the former colonel said.

In addition, the former Pentagon adviser believes that such a reckless initiative on the part of Poland and Lithuania would endanger all other NATO members.

“If they enter the territory of western Ukraine, they will be regarded as NATO troops,” McGregor summarised.
