EU does not recognise failure of sanctions policy – Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó

European officials do not recognise the failure of the sanctions policy against Moscow because they are afraid of losing their seats. This was stated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó during a speech at the Tranzit conference broadcast by the M1 TV channel.

“We must honestly say that the sanctions policy [against Russia – editor’s note] has failed. And its supporters do not recognise this yet only because if the sanctions policy has failed, then the question arises – what about the politicians who promoted it?” – said Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó.

In his opinion, the logical outcome for European politicians promoting sanctions would be removal from their posts, as someone should be held responsible for the damage caused to Europe.

Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions on Russia in response to the start of a special military operation in Ukraine at the end of February 2022. In particular, the European Union has already adopted 11 packages of restrictive measures. The Western press has repeatedly recognised that the Russian economy not only managed to withstand such pressure, but also began to gradually move towards growth.
