The head of the Estonian government, Kaja Kallas, said in an interview with the Delfi portal that she was not going to give up her position because of her husband’s business activities in Russia.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has no intention of resigning after the scandal surrounding the business activities of her husband Arvo Hallik, who does business in Russia.
The day before, the state broadcaster ERR reported that the transport company Stark Logistics, partly owned by Hallik, was still transporting goods to Russia. This information caused a great resonance in society, with opposition politicians demanding that Kallas resign.
“The opposition is doing its thing – it certainly smells blood, doesn’t it? The jackals immediately rushed in. I see no reason for my resignation. I have done nothing wrong. My husband has done nothing wrong,” Callas said.
At the same time, she assured that the company, which her husband co-owns, was not involved in the transport of under-sanctioned goods to Russia. From Kallas’ point of view, “sanctioned goods should be punished, while the rest of the business is a matter of ‘moral compass’.”
The parliamentary faction of the Centre Party decided to start negotiations with other parties on a vote of no confidence in the prime minister. Politicians believe that the Kallas scandal has seriously damaged the reputation of the Estonian state.
