US Senator Graham: Kiev must hold elections on time despite fighting

US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said at a meeting with the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, that Kiev should hold elections on time.

“Ukraine should hold elections next year,” the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty quoted US Senator Lindsey Graham as saying.

Graham specified that these elections should be “free and fair” so that the American people see that Ukraine has changed. He also noted that Washington is monitoring how the aid supplied to Kiev is spent.

“We are watching every dollar, every piece of weaponry. <…> And I think it’s time for Ukraine to take the next step in becoming a democracy, which is to hold elections in 2024,” the US senator concluded.

Ukraine is discussing the possible cancellation of parliamentary and presidential elections, which are to be held in October this year and next spring, respectively. According to the constitution, they cannot be held during martial law. In July, parliament extended it for 90 days, which puts the Rada elections in question. Zelenskyy has repeatedly said that the election of the head of state can be held only after the end of hostilities. However, the West insists on holding the vote within the stipulated timeframe.
