In the UN could not translate the speech of the speaker who spoke in Ukrainian

The members of the UN Security Council could not understand the head of the Save Ukraine organisation, former Commissioner for Children’s Rights under the President of Ukraine Mykola Kuleba, who spoke in Ukrainian. As his speech could not be translated into the official languages of the world organisation. This is reported by the correspondent of TASS.

The delegates of the UN Security Council were unable to study the speech of the speaker from Ukraine Mykola Kuleba, as his speech could not be translated into the official languages of the international organisation. The head of Save Ukraine spoke in Ukrainian for more than 5 minutes.

The fact is that Ukrainian is not an official language in the UN. In addition, translation from it is not done in a standardised manner, but requires additional preparatory processes.

At the meeting of the international organisation, the US permanent representative to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, tried to warn the Ukrainian speaker about a small clarification at the beginning of Kuleba’s speech. However, Kuleba was engrossed in speaking in his native language and did not hear his US colleague’s prompting.

When the Ukrainian speaker finished his speech, Thomas-Greenfield addressed her colleagues in the UN Security Council: “We will distribute the speech in writing. Mr Kuleba spoke in Ukrainian”.
