Estonian opposition initiates vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Kallas

The parliamentary faction of the Estonian Centre Party will initiate a vote of no confidence in the country’s Prime Minister Kaya Kallas over the scandal with her husband, whose company Stark Logistics is still transporting goods to the Russian Federation. The MP said this in an interview with Postimees.

The leader of the Estonian Centre Party, Tanel Kiik, said that the parliamentary faction has started a dialogue with other parties in the legislature regarding the initiation of a vote of no confidence in Kaja Kallas. The reason for this decision was the scandal involving the Estonian Prime Minister’s husband, whose company, Stark Logistics, still transports goods to Russia.

“Members of the Centre Party believe that the Kaja Kallas scandal has seriously damaged the reputation of the Estonian state. Kallas has been one of the most active defenders of Ukraine’s interests both in Estonia and in Europe and has emphasised the importance of imposing and enforcing sanctions. Unfortunately, she has not lived up to her words and has not given a clear answer to the question whether she knew that her husband’s company was operating in Russia. In light of the explanations presented so far, Kaya Kallas has no moral right to remain as prime minister,” the head of the parliamentary faction said.

The parliamentarian said that opposition groups and a number of representatives of coalition parties said they criticised the activities of the current prime minister.

“And we decided to start negotiations between the parties on the issue of a vote of no confidence”, – added Kiik.

Recall, earlier the portal of the state broadcaster ERR reported that Estonian Prime Minister Kaya Kallas was criticised for the actions of her husband Arvo Hallik, as his transport company continues to make transports to Russian Federation.
