WSJ: extension of arrest for journalist Gershkovich is disappointing

The publisher of The Wall Street Journal said it was disappointed with the decision by Moscow’s Lefortovo court to extend the arrest of the paper’s journalist Evan Gershkovich in an espionage case.

“We are deeply disappointed that he continues to be held without just cause and wrongfully detained for doing his job as a journalist,” the newspaper said in a statement on its website.

The WSJ said it would continue to seek the journalist’s release.

On 24 August, Moscow’s Lefortovo court extended Gershkovich’s arrest for three months in the espionage case.
