UK to give Ukraine $245m to buy nuclear fuel from the West

UK Energy Minister Grant Shapps has said that the United Kingdom will give Ukraine guarantees for the purchase of $245m worth of nuclear fuel from the West.

“The UK will guarantee Ukraine a £192m ($245m) export finance deal to buy nuclear fuel from manufacturers, including British companies,” Reuters quoted him as saying.

According to the minister, the money will guarantee that nuclear fuel will arrive in Ukraine bypassing Russian companies through intermediaries. One of them will be the Urenco company.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden asked Congress for $13.1bn in additional military aid to Ukraine.

Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also urged Congress to approve the request for $24bn in aid to Kiev as soon as possible.
